At this point command further investigated the scene and found four of the seven victims in the accident were deceased. There was one person in the SUV and two in the truck that would need to be transported. The victim in the SUV and one of the two in the truck were easily removed from the vehicles and taken to Shore Memorial Hospital via ambulance. Now there was only one other person still trapped and the ensuing extrication took almost three hours to perform. There were many contributing factors to consider during this very lengthy extrication. The position of both vehicles created a very dificult problem to work with. A heavy duty wrecker was called in to assist us with the extrication and it ended up coming in very handy. We used it to lift the SUV off of the pickup truck. After this the extrication went very smoothly and quickly. The last victim was transported to Sentara Norfolk General via Nightingale Air Ambulance Service. |
